Colors

Min Pins come in a rainbow of colors:  black/rust or tan, red, stag red, chocolate/rust or tan, blue/tan, fawn, isabella, blue stag red, merle, brindle, etc. The only colors allowed in the AKC conformation show ring are black and rust/tan, chocolate and rust/tan, red and red stag.

***Don't Judge A Puppy By It's Color" you may miss out on the perfect puppy for you***

Black/tan or rust
is the most common household, pet color.  As this color is the most preferred pet color, our goal is more black/rust than any other color.  I think that people often associate Min Pins with Dobermans and the most common color is black/rust for guard dogs.  Just a note, although they share a name, the Min Pins do NOT come from the Dobermans.

Reds and stag reds are the majority of show dogs as they are the classier, more elegant of the colors.  As one person put it "a good red will win in the show ring but it takes a great black/rust or an exceptional chocolate/tan to beat a red."  I use to prefer the black/rust until I watched Arial.  She is a gorgeous red with cropped ears.  I love to watch her and Cali in the excercise yard.  As we are striving for AKC conformation, we are using more dogs with champions in their pedigrees so we will often have this striking color.

Chocolate/tan or rust is a color that people often ask for but it's harder to find.  It took us a couple of years to get chocolates, including raisng two of them ourselves.  They are very sweet dogs and all of ours are very devoted.  Just a note, this color is known as red in the Dobermans.

Blue and tan along with fawn, isabella, blue stag red, tan, etc. are what is commonly called dilute colors.  They are AKC registerable colors but they are not allowed in the AKC show ring.  The blue/tan is now allowed in the UKC conformation show ring.  Personally, I think the blue/tan are very pretty dogs.  We are NOT breeding for these colors; however, this color is in a lot of our pedigrees with the chocolates so we may occasionally have them.

Merle and brindle are colors that some breeders are introducing.  There is a lot of controversy with these colors, especially with the fact that it is not a Min Pin color so at some point - may even been 3 or 5 generations back, another breed is used.  We will not be breeding these colors as we are only breeding AKC registered dogs.

**Just like the saying "Don't Judge A Book by It's Cover", "Don't Judge A Puppy by It's Color". I understand the desire to want the color you're used to or like the best; however, the personality and bonding with you is far more important. I will be the first to admit it. I had a preference for black/rust only. When we had a hard time finding decent Min Pins that I would feel comfortable using for breeding, I "gave up" and bought Arial because I liked everything about her but the fact she was "red". I am so glad I did. I love to watch her and even now, she is still my favorite girl to watch - including over my potential black/rust show girl. Another example is Blaze. I bought his brother Rocket because he was the only black/rust in the litter and most people want black/rust. The breeder was so sure that Blaze was everything I wanted except for his red color that she put him in the shipping crate too. She was right, 4 months later Rocket is enjoying a pet home and Blaze is my new little house buddy. So please "Don't Judge A Puppy by It's Color".
